Course Description:

In dentistry, the challenge often lies in knowing how to sequence a complex case from start to finish. “Connecting the Dots in Comprehensive Dentistry” bridges the gap between initial diagnosis and the final delivery of esthetic restorations.

This session moves beyond “tooth-by-tooth” dentistry to explore a systematic approach to treatment planning. By applying the fundamental principles of functional occlusion, clinicians will learn how to design a stable foundation that protects against restorative failure. We will dive deep into the logic of case sequencing—determining what to do first, second, and last—to ensure a predictable workflow. Finally, we will integrate esthetic principles to ensure that the final result is not only mechanically sound but also harmoniously beautiful.

Learning Objectives:

• Analyze and Apply Occlusal Principles: Identify the key components of a functional occlusion (such as centric relation and anterior guidance)
• Master the Sequencing Workflow: Develop a step-by-step protocol for complex cases, moving logically from biological stabilization to functional design and final esthetic execution
• Integrate Form with Esthetics: Utilize “Facially Generated” treatment planning to determine ideal tooth position, ensuring that the restorative “Form” supports both facial harmony and speech
• Diagnostic Troubleshooting: Recognize “red flag” clinical signs—such as wear patterns or muscle pain—that require functional intervention before the esthetic phase begins
• Communication & Case Acceptance: Enhance the use of diagnostic wax-ups and provisional restorations as “blueprints” to communicate expected outcomes clearly to both the patient and the laboratory

About the Speaker:

Dr. Michelle Lee is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and lives in Malvern, Pennsylvania.  She owns a patient-centered comprehensive restorative private practice in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania treating from a joint based, occlusion focused practice treating the TMJ to final smile design.  Dr. Lee started her Pankey journey in 2008 and serves on the Pankey Board of Directors, Advisory Board, Pankey Faculty, and also holds a Pankey Scholar distinction.  She also teaches restorative microscope dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School and integrates microscope dentistry in her own private practice.  She is passionate about teaching, mentoring, giving back to dentistry, and has been invited to speak in various national and local education venues.  Dr. Lee is grounded through her love for hiking, traveling, and cooking.  She enjoys presence over presents with her family and friends.
